On Saturday 22 May 2021 we were at home to Shefford, rain stopped play at 16 ends, with Ampthill winning 45 to 42, enjoyed by all and good company, Well done Ladies!
Match report Shefford 22/5/21
The mens team played Shefford today through wind, rain and the cold with occassional sunshine but as always Shefford were most welcoming. We lost 45 to 55 in what was, for the most part, a very tight game. Thanks to everyone who took part, I am sure everyone enjoyed the match.
County League game 19/5/21
Another great win in the County League on Wednesday evening, winning on 2 rinks and just dropping 3 shots on 1. Total shots for Ampthill 52 and Bedford Priory 48. Well done to all that played and great to see several of our new members playing well and enjoying the game.
Match report Flitwick 13/5/21
A coldish night at Flitwick for our first County game. Rink very hard to find a true line, but Mike Rogers started very well leading for skip Goff. Terry skipping with Martyn, Mike and Nick dropped seven shots but fought back to win by three shots in the end. Ian and his team also played a very tight game on rink 1 and came through. Lovely to see our new bowlers Nick, Dan, Mike and Kevin bowling and enjoying the competition. Overall, three rinks won so well done to all. Thanks to Captain Tom for his guidance and support. Well done to Malcolm Lane who played his first game of bowls in 18 months, great to see. Keep it going Ampthill, Great start! Ampthill 65 - Flitwick 44.
Match report Wilstead 5/5/21
Another win for Ampthill 56-53 with Louis Andrews, Michael Rogers and Terry Lynch scoring winning 26-6. Thanks to all bowlers for their contribution to an exciting match.
Match report for Bletchley Town 1/5/21
Sat 1st May, with stand in Captain Colin Beal, we played Bletchley Town away.
A lovely afternoon with sun shining, three triples set play a to social distance friendly game.
Colin Beal stepped up to Captain for the day as club Captain Tom Tink was celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary with Jan and the rest of his family, Congratulations to them Both.
The Bletchley team had several Buckinghamshire Middleton Cup players playing for them and we had some of our newer players getting experience in game play. One of the players for Bletchley had a storming game, he is in his 90th year and had more years playing bowls than the three Ampthill players on that rink put together!
The green played very well with a lovely swinging hand and a true straight hand and with the rain holding off until the last end we had a good game of bowls with Bletchley coming out on top - Bletchley 79 - Ampthill 34.
Clean Sweep for the Ampthill Men in their first home friendly of the season against Barton on 28/4/21...
Ampthill men played Barton in a 3 rink triples friendly match on the evening of Wednesday 28th April. Barton brought a strong team with them, and the matches were very close right up to the last ends. It could have gone either way, but Ampthill eventually run out winners in all three matches.
The evening started off cold and got colder. At least we missed the rain!! Despite the cold all the players were glad to be back playing again after a difficult year.
So, this win makes it two wins in a row, one mixed and one men’s, for the new club captain Tom Tink. Long may it continue.
The green looked great and played well. Good comments were received from the Barton Players on the green condition. Big thanks to Goff and his team for their hard work on the green these past months.
The bar was open for the evening for the players use only and it was well used. Drinks were served from the club house doorway as under current Covid regulations entrance to the club house is still restricted. A big thanks to Martin Harris for manning the bar.
The usual after match food could not be supplied because we cannot enter the club house under the current Covid regulations. Hopefully, this will change in the near future when the regulations are eased, as the social side of bowls is an important part of a match day.
Currently no spectators are allowed at the club. This could change shortly - 21st July is the proposed Government date at the moment. It’s nice to see members show support for the club even if they are not playing in a match so we look forward to welcoming all members back.
The Ladies are off to a Great start ..
For our first Match this season Ampthill Ladies travelled to Barton B C. Although it wasn’t our usual bowling afternoon due to the Virus restrictions, we all enjoyed being out on the green again and playing the game we love. With the help of 2 of our clubs male members, we were really happy to win the game and came home with smiles on our faces!!!! We did miss the social side of the afternoon tho, not being able to have the usual friendly chat and banter during Tea, but we now look forward to getting back to normal sooner rather than later. (28/4/21)
Olney Saturday 24/4/21
A friendly welcome by Olney for our first game of the year, and what a great start with a 48-46 win. Michael Oliver and Tony Lee proved promising on their first outing for the club with Trish and Caroline helping in what proved to be a very exciting and tight match.
