Welcome to the Ampthill Bowls Club website. Here you should be able to find out everything you need to know about the club and perhaps a little bit more!
Having celebrated our Centenary in 2019 with several special events, we are looking forward to the next 100 years. Sadly the pandemic put last years season out of play for external competitions, however, ensuring we had strict Covid-19 health and safety precuactions put in place, we did manage to successfully run two interclub compeititons which meant those that wanted to play had the opportunity too. We were hoping to extend our involvement with local Community groups including Ampthill Town Rugby Club, Army/Air/Sea Cadets and the Chesire Home residents however the Covid-19 pandemic has put a halt on proceedings for the moment. As soon as it is safe we will resume our links and activities as previously planned. We also have an an nnual ‘Challenge Match’ against Councillors and Chamber members in June but due to the pandemic this has also been cancelled for this year, we look forward to re-instating this next year.
Bowls is a unique game that can be played by people of any age, it is a very sociable sport that can be fun and challenging. It is one of the few sports where a 70 year old can play a competitive game against a 20 year old. The outdoor season runs from April to September during which time a variety of matches and competitions are run against other local clubs. After most matches refreshments are provided offering additional opportunities to socialize with your team members and oppenents in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Our licensed bar also offers a wide range of drinks at very generous prices!
A number of our own bowlers have appeared in the Finals of the National Bowls England competition held each year at Leamington Spa, and have won various other competitions at County level. See our ‘News page and Info’.
We are also proud to have two qualified coaches who are members of the club who will provide coaching sessions to new and existing members free of charge.
We offer several 'Taster Sessions' through out the season, where anybody can come and have-a-go at bowls and meet some of the club members. These are a great way to find out more about us and for you to see what fun the game can be. They are normally held between May and July, last year we changed the format slightly to ensure we had a Covid-19 safe environment. The 'Taster Sessions' proved very popular so we hope to continue with more of these next season.
Whether you are interested in taking up the game of Bowls, socially or competitively, or would just like to be a spectator we look forward to seeing you soon!
