Welcome to the Ampthill Bowls Club website. Here you should be able to find out everything you need to know about the club and perhaps a little bit more!
Having celebrated our Centenary last year with several special events, we are looking forward to the next 100 years. This year we were hoping to extend our involvement with local Community groups including Ampthill Town Rugby Club, Army/Air/Sea Cadets and the Chesire Home residents however the Covid-19 pandemic has put a halt on proceedings for the moment. As soon as it is safe we will resume our links and activities as previously planned. We also have an annual ‘Challenge Match’ against Councillors and Chamber members in June but due to the pandemic this has also been cancelled for this year, we look forward to re-instating this next year.
Bowls is a unique game that can be played by people of any age, it is a very sociable sport that can be fun and challenging. It is one of the few sports where a 70 year old can play a competitive game against a 20 year old. The outdoor season runs from April to September during which time a variety of matches and competitions are run against other local clubs. After most matches refreshments are provided offering additional opportunities to socialize with your team members and oppenents in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Our licensed bar also offers a wide range of drinks at very generous prices!
A number of our own bowlers have appeared in the Finals of the National Bowls England competition held each year at Leamington Spa, and have won various other competitions at County level. See our ‘News page and Info’.
We are also proud to have two qualified coaches who are members of the club who will provide coaching sessions to new and existing members free of charge.
Every year we host a number of 'Open' days where anybody can come and have-a-go at bowls and meet some of the club members. These are a great way to find out more about us and for you to see what fun the game can be. They are normally held between May and July, sadly they were cancelled this year (due to the pandemic) but alternative dates will be advertised if possible, and if deemed safe, later in the season.
Whether you are interested in taking up the game of Bowls, socially or competitively, or would just like to be a spectator we look forward to seeing you soon!
